The Texas GOP releases its state platform. Juicy!

I probably can’t do this simply charming document the justice that jaysays did over at his blog, because I’m working on my thesis at the moment. But I’ll highlight some of the really solid American values that Texas’ Republicans are trying to bat a thousand with this election year:

• We believe in… Self-sufficient families, founded on the traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman.

Natural man and natural woman? What, no depilatory cremes?

And then..

• We support the definition of marriage as a God–ordained, legal and moral commitment only between a natural man and a natural woman, which is the foundational unit of a healthy society, and we oppose the assault on marriage by judicial activists.

Ah yes, marriage is “God-ordained”. Because Buddhists, who don’t believe in a god, have never, ever gotten married in the US. Nor have other atheists! Did you know that?

Oh but here’s a really good one:

• Neither the United States nor any state shall recognize or grant to any unmarried person the legal rights or status of a spouse.

Nothing say small government like a single state’s Republican party setting the legislative agenda for ALL THE OTHER STATES.

Anywho, read a more in-depth, local analysis here. And make sure to comment at The Sanctimonium! We thrive on conversation 🙂
